Camp WINGS is for any child from 1st grade to 8th grade who has lost a loved one within the last year.

What is Camp WINGS?

Camp WINGS (“When In Need Get Support“) is a bereavement camp for children who have lost a loved one. Campers participate in fun, traditional camp activities combined with group grief education and emotional support, led by expert bereavement professionals and trained volunteers.

Who can attend?

Any child grades 1st – 8th can attend Camp WINGS. Potential campers will be required to fill out an application containing personal, bereavement and medical information. Registration is on a first-come, first serve basis. Each application will be reviewed in detail by the Heart of Georgia Hospice Family Support Services team and a face-to-face interview is required in order to ensure the best possible experience for every Camp WINGS participant.

When is Camp WINGS?

Camp WINGS is held every year in the fall, usually at the beginning of November. This year’s camp will be held November 6 – 8. Parents/Caregivers will drop off their child Friday and return for a Celebration Ceremony and pickup on Sunday.

My loved one that passed away was not a hospice patient. Can my child still attend?

Yes! ANY child grade 1st – 8th may attend camp regardless of whether their loved one was on hospice or not.

How much does it cost to send a child to Camp WINGS?

There is no charge for a child to attend camp.

Thanks to the generosity of businesses and individuals in our community, there is no cost for a child to attend.

Can siblings attend?

Yes. Siblings within the age parameters (1st – 8th grade) are encouraged to come together. Campers are grouped by age.

What will the children do at Camp WINGS?

There are lots of activities for the children of all ages and abilities. Camp activities include the following:

Arts & crafts, games, outdoor activities, campfire with s’mores and hot cocoa, and much more!

Campers will also have small group sessions where they will learn about what grief is, how to better handle it, and share their own experiences.

How did Camp WINGS get started?

The first Camp WINGS was held in November of 2000 after our Social Worker at the time recognized a great need for grief counseling, specifically geared toward children.

Since then, we have found in our hearts that helping children with grief is something the community cannot do without, and we promise to continue to provide these services to those children in need.
